NO KIDDING! is open to any adult who has never parented, regardless of gender, age, color, race, ethnicity, or political, sexual or religious orientation. Members range in age from 20s to 60s, with most being in their 30s and 40s. Couples, singles, men, and women are usually nearly equally represented. Most members of No Kidding! have thought long and hard about parenthood and many have concluded (for various reasons) that it really wasn't right for them, while some are still in the decision-making process. Still others will probably have children at sometime in the future, but aren't ready just yet (even though all of their other friends are having theirs now and are urging them to catch up), and some wanted to have kids but were unable to. They have all joined No Kidding! to be able to socialize with other adults who can be spontaneous in their activities, who can chat on the phone without interruptions, and who won't alienate them by talking about kids all the time.

What kinds of activities does NO KIDDING! have?
Our members and non-members organize social activities every month, where we talk about careers, studies, travels, interests, sex, politics and religion ... but rarely, if ever, about children. It's not that the topic of children is taboo, it's simply not an issue with us.

How can I make some new childfree friends ?
If any of the above places are near you, just ask us for contact information for the chapter closest to you, or contact them directly if they have a website.

If not, and if you are truly interested in making some new childfree friends, then you will probably want to start your own chapter (as it is probably the best way -- if not the only way -- of meeting other childfree people). So, you have the choice of joining an existing No Kidding! chapter, waiting for someone to start one near you (and hope you hear about it), or starting your own. You may find, though, that if you wait for others to take action, nothing gets done because, it often turns out, they were waiting for you.

How do I start up a chapter ?
If you would like to make some new childfree friends by forming a NO KIDDING! chapter in your city, please write to us and request a startup information packet. The packet that you will receive consists of a description of NO KIDDING!, our members and activities, suggestions to make starting and running a chapter easier, and a proposed agenda for your first meeting. We'll also include a list of any people near you who have contacted us (along with their contact information, of course) and a mini-poster that members put up in workplaces, community centers, libraries, transit vehicles, apartment buildings, etc.; feel free to adapt it for your own use. Additionally, we will publicize your chapter's existence, and we'll refer all future inquiries to you. To get your startup information packet, please send us a check or money order for $40 (which you can reimburse yourself from membership fees), made out to "NO KIDDING!" (not to Jerry Steinberg, please), to help defray advertising, phone, printing, and postal expenses -- expenses that no other chapter has. Please include your return address, phone number and email address (if you have e-mail). Please keep in mind that NO KIDDING! is not a business, but we do have operating expenses, nonetheless.
